The momentum of the conceptual Chapman Hill Bike Park project was curtailed this week when a grant request to fund its creation was rejected by Great Outdoors Colorado.

A grant request to fund the creation of Durango's first City-sanctioned freeride and dirt jump trails was denied by GOCO recently.

A grant request to fund the creation of Durango’s first City-sanctioned freeride and dirt jump trails was denied by GOCO recently.

At the City’s Natural Lands Board meeting on Monday, the topic did not progress beyond discussing the possibility of resubmitting an application for a grant.

“We were very close,” said Hall “What they encouraged us to do when they saw feedback is try again next time. And essentially what happened is that the funding was less in the cycle than in the past. They funded 8, we were 11th out of 51, but nonetheless we didn’t make the cut so we’ll have to regroup on that a little bit, and see where to go with it.”

The next cycles for GOCO grant applications are typically in August and then February, according to Hall.

“That’s certainly an option, of course, to resubmit,” Hall said.

Trails 2000 held a fundraiser on May 18, 2011 at the Smiley Building to fund the construction of a freeride skills training area at Chapman Hill.

Mary Monroe, Trails 2000’s Executive Director, has refused on multiple occasions to go on the record with this blogger about the status of their fundraising efforts for the Chapman Hill Bike Park project.

Specifically, this blogger wants to know how much money they raised with their first fundraiser, whether donations for Chapman Hill Bike Park project could be guaranteed to go towards that particular project, and what Trails 2000 plans to do with the money that they raised at their first fundraiser for Chapman Hill.
