Pedal the Peaks bike shop to open a sister store and eventually, a shuttle service, in Silverton
The current owners of Pedal the Peaks bike shop in Durango are opening a new shop in Silverton, where they will be moving most of their stuff from the Durango store.
Cliff Pinto and Gary Bischoff are working to finish remodeling their new space up in Silverton, where they also hope to eventually get permitted to run bike shuttles in the high country, said Pinto.
Pinto said that they plan to carry the same bike brands that they sold at their old store in Durango, which closed at the end of October, 2017.
The new shop in Silverton is a two-story building with more square footage than the old shop, he said.
At their old location at Main and College, David Howard will be opening a sister bike shop of his own called Pedal The Peaks, which will carry the same brands of bikes and some other gear that was sold there previously.
Cliff will be in Durango helping Howard transition operations of the shop every Monday.
David Howard opened the first Pedal The Peaks in Pagosa Springs back in 1992, said Pinto.
Then, after the shop sustained damage from a fire around 1996, Howard opened Pedal The Peaks in Durango, which he ran as a business through 2003.
In 2004, Howard sold the business to Pinto. Pinto managed the shop by himself until 2014.
In 2014, Pinto took on Gary Bischoff as a partner in management of the bike shop.
Between the two new Pedal The Peaks bike shops, customers should have a greater selection of bikes for people to demo when one shop has something that they could lend to another bike shop to rent out, Pinto said.
It’s the beginning of a new era.
