The BLM is asking the public to comment on trail routes on Animas Mountain that were recently inventoried. Some of the newer ones are social trails.

Animas Mountain MapDome to the Loam, Loam Zone and The Merv are popular new trails on the west side of Animas Mountain, which the public should comment on.

Routes 3207, 1804 and 1805, should be adopted with attempts made to keep Dome to the Loam and Loam Zone (3207) out of drainages.

Some berms or short reroutes on Dome to The Loam could help improve the flow of the trail for those that want to minimize their pedaling while descending. Please support the idea of adding turns and using natural terrain features on Loam Zone.

Please save the drop and the jump above Sailing Hawks on The Merv. Help save these freeride features.

The Vulture Trail is another trail that the BLM should adopt. It drops down off of the west side of Animas Mountain.

It looks like we’ll have to draw The Vulture Trail in to the BLM’s web map so that they know what it is that we’re talking about.

Also, the seasonal closure of the entire mountain to the public for such an extended period seems a bit excessive given its close proximity to town. December 1 through April 15 are the usual closure dates.
