The Bureau of Land Management is aggressively enforcing the trail closure on Animas Mountain that’s intended to protect big game. Last weekend, a law enforcement officer equipped with a radio, pepper spray, gun, etc. was waiting a couple hundred feet behind the gate and ready to hand out tickets for $275. Bikes would be banned from the City’s new Oxbow Preserve under a proposed revision to the Oxbow Park and Preserve Management Plan that was recently offered by two members of the Natural Lands Board. Last May, two boards with the City of Durango approved a controversial Natural Surface Trails Report that penned the intention to begin closing trails on city lands that were deemed as erosive illegal social trails.
